The Weight Loss Challenge
Welcome to CelebrateWeightLoss.com!
Join us as we celebrate the journey of losing weight, getting fit, learning discipline and overcoming challenges along the way.
The inspiration for this site comes from a desire to record my own progress - the good, the bad, the ugly. My hope is that it will encourage others that are fighting a similar battle - it’s not an easy task and we all need the motivation to carry on.
The main pieces of this site and our journey together consists of the following:
Weight Loss Goals:
I believe in the power of goal setting and this challenge is all about hitting the mark that we will set for ourselves. I’ll begin with an overview of yearly goals and then break these down into quarterly and monthly goals. Tho I may or may not post every goal here, note that I personally break this down further into weekly goals and then daily goals.
Fitness Goals:
While the weight loss goals are marks that we are aiming for, there are many things that can effect how fast or slow our bodies will lose the weight. The one thing that we can (and must) do, no matter where we are at to begin - it to GET MOVING! Ultimately it will be our exercise routine and fitness level that will increase our metabolism - and thus help us to burn more calories. When I break down my quarterly and monthly goals into weekly/daily goals, it is the fitness portion that I can absolutely attain. I may not hit that 2 lb weekly mark, but I KNOW that I can hit a daily goal of going for a 40 min. walk.
Tips for Setting Your Goals:
- Make this a pleasant experience for yourself - go out and buy that planner you’ve been thinking about, or pretty paper and colored pens. Don’t just write these goals on scraps of paper - this is a process and getting organized will help! I use a regular 3 ring binder with dividers/tabs for each quarter. (I also include my finance/business goals in my 2007 binder and yours should reflect the things that you are focusing on during the current year)
- If you have a lot of weight to lose, make this your #1 focus for a time. There is nothing more important than your health and I believe that getting healthy and fit will effect every other area of our lives in a positive way.
- Set aside time to set your goals. I set my monthly goals at the end of the month (quarterly where applicable) and my weekly goals on Sundays. In the morning, I create my list of the daily goals.
- When you reach a goal, celebrate! The momentum you will feel will be tremendous and I promise that the first 5 lbs you lose will be the most important as the most difficult part (in my opinion) is getting started.
Progress:
I will report my progress here and encourage you to do the same. We want to celebrate with one another and sharing your progress will inspire me and I hope I can do the same with you on your journey.
Diet:
In this section, I’ll share everything related to food….what I’m eating, calorie counting, recipes, suggestions, what I’m craving (and giving into) and more. The word “diet” is really just meant to suggest what my food consists of as I feel that it has very negative connotations and I’ve never really been a big “dieter”. (obviously ) I don’t believe in total deprivation when it comes to food, although I do believe that healthy discipline is required. In other words, once every month or so when I’m PMS-ing in a bad way, I will give in to the craving for pizza (as you will see in my journal lol ) BUT I feel that this alone is not what derails us - it is MORE important what we do the NEXT day. Understood?
Exercise:
In this section, I’ll discuss the various types of exercise that I am currently doing. I will include tips and suggestions for my favorite videos, books and the equipment that I am using or learning about. Find out about why I love pilates and my trusty 8 Minute Ab routine! We’ll talk about walking, cycling, strength training and more.
Motivation:
We all need it to begin and we certainly need motivation and inspiration along the way. I will do my best when the mood strikes to encourage you and very much appreciate the feedback, support and motivation from you as well. We’re in this together! …virtual high-5!
Weight Loss Tips:
As I discover what is working for me along the way, I will post tips and suggestions here. What works for one person, may not necessarily work for another, but if we can create a toolbox of ideas along the way, we’ll be that much more equipped to deal with things such as weight loss plateaus, cravings and finding a new recipe for the fish that we’re getting tired of eating.
Weight Loss Journal:
I will use this as a diary of sorts and try to be as transparent as possible. I expect there to be huge Aha! moments along the way as well as days of frustration and challenges. I will do my best to keep a record of the journey - and encourage you to post yours as well.
Miscellaneous Information, Articles and Links:
I love the Internet and am pretty much in front of my computer 24/7. (it’s how I pay my bills) I also love to research, so as I learn things that will be helpful to our weight loss challenge, I will put them together in articles and post them here as well as links to other helpful sites online. The world is literally at our fingertips and if we need information about high blood pressure, metabolism, or how to count calories (for example) I can put this together for us all here.
YOUR Participation:
I VERY much would like to hear from YOU during this process! Please do use the comments sections with each post to give your input, progress and encouragement to others. As we progress and things get hoppin here, I can put together a forum or other way for us to all communicate with one another if it’s needed/wanted.
I wish you much success! Let the journey begin…
